Looking to start a business as a Black female? We sat down with Laila Jean AKA NeffyFroFro, founder of Wild Seed Botanicals to learn about her journey. Wild Seed Botanicals is a vegan skincare brand rooted in African holistic traditions. You can watch the interview on our Instagram page or read what she had to say here:

Hi, I’m Laila and I’m the founder of Wild Seed Botanicals.

What’s one word you’d use to describe your entrepreneurial journey so far?

One word I would use to describe my entrepreneurial journey so far has to be challenging. And challenging not in a negative way but challenging in terms of growth. Not only has the business grown but I found that I’ve grown a lot, my outlook and the way I view a lot of things has had to change. So it has been challenging in that sense but positively.

When it comes to Black women- what do we need to normalise?

Normalise Black women being visible and successful in all spaces.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve received?

The best piece of business advice I’ve received so far on my journey was actually from a man that I was on a course with. There’s a difference between being beaten and fighting.

Initially, I was really confused about that but essentially, what he said to me is don’t rush your business. Don’t rush to get yourself into spaces when you’re not ready to be there. Take your time because you want to be an equal opponent with whoever you go head to head with.
